DESCRIPTION

This beautifully handmade clay dish is made in San Marcos Tlapazola by the collective "Mujeres del Barro Rojo". It is safe for food and will create a delicious plating to any dish.

Oaxaca Red Clay Pottery Mujeres Del Barro Rojo made by the Zapotec women.

A contemporary style of red clay, or barro rojo, handcrafted by a cooperative of women in San Marcos, Tlapazola, Oaxaca. Every piece is shaped by hand, and finished with a red clay slip which creates a uniquely textural finish.

The intense red color is achieved by combining red and yellow clay that the women mine in the hillside. The women make the pieces by hand without the use of molds or a pottery wheel. It takes them about 10 days to finish each piece.
